The challenge

When someone is unwell, choosing to cross a border for treatment is a leap of faith. The family is asking a hospital in another country to look after the person they love, in a language and a system they don’t fully understand.

For IHH Healthcare Malaysia’s campaign for Indonesian patients, the film had to show the full support IHH offers (second opinions, travel, accommodation, clinical care and aftercare) without becoming an explainer. And it had to earn trust from an audience with plenty of other options across the region.

Medical tourism is one of the highest-trust decisions a family makes.

The strategy

Told through the daughter

When an older parent falls ill, the adult child often carries the decision. They research the options, seek second opinions, arrange the trip, the accommodation and the translator, and sit beside the hospital bed through recovery.

So the film follows a daughter helping her sick father through every stage of the journey from Indonesia to Malaysia. A daughter caring for her father needs no translation, and IHH’s cross-border support becomes visible through the moments she meets along the way. We didn’t list IHH’s capabilities. We showed them inside a story.

The outcome

Trust, built through a story

The film launched as the anchor of IHH Healthcare Malaysia’s campaign for Indonesian patients, across digital, social and touchpoints along the patient journey.

It built trust through a story the audience recognised as their own, and made IHH’s cross-border support visible without ever needing to list it.
